Detectives from FCPD Major Crimes Bureau are conducting a death investigation concerning the death of an inmate at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

On March 31, around 6:17 p.m., Sam Zu Yung, 32, was found unresponsive in his single cell at the Detention Center. Deputies and EMS immediately began performing life-saving measures.  Yung was later declared deceased. 

Detectives continue to investigate Yung’s death and preliminarily, foul play is not suspected.

Yung has been in the custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and incarcerated at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center since Feb. 16, 2025.

By policy, the FCPD investigates all Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office in-custody deaths.
