A celebration of the 250th anniversary of Alexandria’s Friendship Fire Company will be on full display at the upcoming Friendship Firehouse Festival Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 100 block of South Alfred Street.
The festival features the opportunity to learn about fire safety today, and yesterday, and see Alexandria Fire Department equipment up close. Booths will be set up by the Alexandria Police Department and Sheriff's Office along with music performances, face painting, displays by community organizations, local vendors, and food and beverage sales.
Water play and hands-on artifact activities will be featured and children will receive free toy Friendship firefighting helmets.
Festival participants will be able to tour the Friendship Firehouse Museum, originally built as a firehouse in 1855.
The family event is sponsored by the Friendship Veterans Fire Engine Association and the Office of Historic Alexandria. Admission is free.
