United Community Ministries (UCM), in partnership with global research and development organization Battelle, has announced the Battelle-UCM Scholarship program for 2016. The scholarship application is available for download at www.ucmagency.org, with a submission deadline of April 1.
The college scholarships are in the amount of up to $2,000 per student for graduating seniors at Mount Vernon High School, West Potomac High School, and Bryant Alternative High School. Funded by a gift from Battelle, applicants must be planning to major in STEM studies (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), in preparation for a career in this expanding field.
Applicants must meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria and provide a copy of their Pell Grant application for the 2016 academic year. The graduating seniors must be U.S. citizens or otherwise legally eligible to work and study in the United States, planning to enroll full- or part-time in Fall 2016 as a first-year student at an accredited college or university, and seeking a two-year or four-year degree in STEM studies.
Scholarship candidates must demonstrate leadership, confidence in dealing with challenges, commitment to goals/tasks, and active participation in community service.
