Walt Whitman Middle School opened in 1961, the school facility has moved three times and is now located near the intersection of Parkers Lane and Sherwood Hall Lane in Mount Vernon.

On Thursday evening, March 22, students filled the hallways with displays of projects. Students, families and alumni filled the auditorium for speeches by Principal Jean Bell, Cluster IV Director Debbie Tyler and Mt. Vernon District School Board Representative Dan Storck, former Principal Otha Davis, former First Lady of Virginia Susan Allen and state Del. Scott Surovell.
