Long Lasting Pumpkins that Don’t Skimp on Style

Hand blown orbs are an elegant alternative to traditional pumpkins.

From toothy grins to spooky eyes, come Halloween night, almost every porch will be decked with carved pumpkins.  When it comes to a home’s interior, these spooky orbs aren’t synonymous with style.

For those who want a display that reaches beyond the spookiest night of the year, The Picket Fence in Burke unveiled a collection of hand-blown glass pumpkins in vibrant hues like deep red and shades of blue and green.

“Some are single toned, while others have a mixed tone or ombré look to them,” said shop owner Courtney Thomas. “There are many swirls and lines in the glass where it was shaped as it was blown, making each one unique.”

Carefully crafted by artist Luke Adams, the pumpkins are intricately detailed and topped with fanciful coiled stems.  They’re an accessory that adds a touch of magic to a mantel or side table, noted Thomas.

“They’re hand blown [in] a small studio.  He makes many glass items, but our favorite is the pumpkin,” she said. “They’re gorgeous,” she said.
